Thursday 28/10/10
Today is our last chance to do some washing and drying in bulk as we leave Chinon tomorrow morning. Went to market in Joan of Arc square. Product was fantastic. More salamis than we have ever seen. Clothes were well priced and different. Bought 3 wraps and got a freebe. Said goodbye to the girl at Cafe d Art who had been serving us coffees and did some more exploring.

Friday 29/10/10
Breakfast was from the bakery on the way through, it was still dark, and the lady there wished us a safe trip as she knew we were off to the train.  Sorted out the trains as France was still experiencing problems.  Had to detour at Tours to St Pierre des Corps and then to Montpanasse. Taxi from there to Gard du Lyon with a Vietmanese driver who told us his life story. Nearly missed our train as I had read the time wrong. Made it by 10 minutes.  Arrived in Avignon and straight to Pont du Avignon for a look as it was getting late.  Walked acros the bridge with an audio accompanyment which was great. It was still light until after 6pm so got some photos.  Our room overlooks the square which is quite busy.

Saturday 30/10/10
Off to the Palace of the Popes which was wonderful. Spent the morning there and then spent the remainder walking the streets. Tried one church for Mass at 5pm with no luck. Went to another church St Pierre and who was there but Phil Flaherty from DBCDE (Margs work).

Sunday 31/10/10
It was raining as we left for the train.  Had been raining most of Saturday as well. The ride from Avignon to Nice was rain all the way and we arrived in Nice to pouring, windy rain.  Organised the queue at the railway station for taxis as they kept trying to get in front of us. When we got our taxi there was an orderly queue of about 8 people. As we did not have our bearings and the weather was so bad we bought a bottle of wine from the Hotel and ordered a pizza in.  The view from our room was good and gave us a view right along the beach which was good with the rain.

Monday 01/11/10
Still raining and we decided to buy tickets for the Hop on Hop Off bus so that we could at lease see something.  Did one round and decided to get off and have a look around the square as the rain had eased.  Back on and did almost another round so that we could have a good look at a Russian Orthodox church.  Back on again to find a group of 4 Aussies behind us and they were 2 sisters from Toowoomba and Brisbane with their husbands. Got talking and said we originally came from Rocky. One guy said he grew up in Depot Hill in Rocky. His name is Reg Knowles and he grew up in Campbell Street opposite Freemans Pies.  His sisters are Annette Mooody and Suzette Harrison. Small world.  We had dinner at Lar Storia in Cour Saleya which was very good.  It was pouring again and we were not in a hurry to leave. The waiter bought us some liqueurs which we determined were blueberry from Corsica.
